History
The initial idea for the vineyard was sparked at the 2000 ASNR conference in Atlanta. Once back in California, we developed a plan and scoured the Sierra Nevada foothills for potential vineyard property. Later that year, we found 40 beautiful undeveloped acres on a westward facing slope along the Cosumnes River Canyon. And when we say undeveloped, we mean it. No water, no roads, no power, no buildings. Nothing. It was quite a project.
We planted 6 acres of Syrah with the initial intention of growing and selling grapes before we had the 'epiphany': it would be a lot more fun to make wine. We self-educated ourselves in the science and art of winemaking and produced our first vintage in 2004 under our local High View Vineyards label. It released in 2006, won two medals and sold out.
